Synchronicities
Every day I wake up knowing that today will be warm and novel and inspiring and vulnerable and totally devoid of writing.
When I took down the pseudonymous Haider Majhul blog — my sadboi pen name for a year — I could feel myself immediately blur. That’s…the only word I have for it. Writing sharpens. And having spent so much time brandishing that edge to slice through the jungle of my being, crystallizing and articulating the things that made me me, searching for the lost treasure at the centre of it all, I finally had some semblance of what I was looking for. I existed. I was permanent. But the writing stopped, and the jungle is overgrown, and we’re lost once more.
Back in February I decided that I would write publicly again, and announced it in particularly noncommittal fashion: “Sometimes I like to write things, and so this shall be where they get written.” “Sometimes” ended up being once, and that was six months ago.
So I’m going to do it right this time. Allow me to reintroduce myself and this place we’ve found ourselves.
I’m Shaiyan Khan, and in my core I know that life becomes more interesting when you interpret it to death. So interpret we shall. Once upon a time I found myself dabbling in management consulting and venture capital, which were two silly endeavours that redeemed themselves when they led me to to Shopify Plus and DemandHub. When tech sales inevitably became passé, I went on to start various ecommerce brands and freelance writing gigs. And then COVID hit. Nowadays I’m lucky to spend my days helping writers grow on Substack and my evenings trying to suck less at jiu-jitsu and chess. I’m currently living in Ocean Park, Puerto Rico.
Without social media, this is really the only place I’m able to screech into the void. I tried it once in-person but apparently I’m "not supposed to” and, alas, “no longer welcome at Burger King”. I write about nothing and everything. You can look forward to some type of post every other week.
Please dear god keep me accountable.
This is the closest I get to using social media. If you like what you’re reading and you’d like to follow along with what I’m up to, please consider sharing this post and subscribing below. Expect something to appear in your inbox at some ungodly hour every other week.
